A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Rules For The Implementation Of Gansu Province Science And Technology Incentives(Revised In 2016)

Rules for the implementation are detailed explanations and supplements made by the governmental organs or departments to realize the standardization and management of their subordinate units.They can be regarded as official documents,carrying the characteristics of legal texts.During her graduate study,the author translated the Rules for the Implementation of Gansu Province Science and Technology Incentives(Revised in 2016)for her client.This task has enabled the author to gain important first-hand experience in translating text of this type.After finishing the whole translation task,the author found that despite the variety of rules for implementation,their translations lack systematic and professional collation based on generally accepted norms.There are only a few English translations attainable,and few are available for the translator's reference.Therefore,the author wrote the project report based on her reflection on the experience and lessons learned in the process of translation.The project report has conducted classification and description of the difficulties the author encountered in the translation process from the lexical,syntactic,and textual aspects.Guided by the Skopos Theory,the author tried to provide corresponding solutions to these problems,including how to translate terms related to science and technology field,expressions with Chinese characteristics,as well as long and difficult sentences which are ubiquitous in legal translation,and finally,how to achieve the textual cohesion and coherence.The author hopes that relevant translation strategies could be drawn through her translation practice and her reflection and research afterward,and useful reference could be provided for the translation of similar texts.
