The Investigation And Reasons Of International Students’ Errors In Chinese Characters With Similar Form

The paper originated from the language database of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission’s project-Chinese characters as research, calculating and analyzing foreign students’errors in Chinese characters with similar form of Shanghai Jiaotong University in2007-2012. The paper summed up175pairs of Chinese characters with similar form and worked out a list of The Commonly Used Chinese Characters With Similar Form for Chinese Learners (appendix1). There’re25pairs of single characters and150pairs of compound characters.Then the paper chose60pairs of Chinese characters with similar form and tested51Chinese learners in the School of International Education. According to the survey, those look-like Chinese characters are commonly made mistakes by the students.The reasons of students’errors are:1. The lack of understanding of the radical meanings and configuration;2. Lack of understanding the original meaning and metaphorical meaning. The solution is making a list of Chinese characters with similar form in the range of The New HSK Words On the Level of1-6(appendix2), which used for teaching Chinese characters to foreigners.
