A Report On The Translation Of Institutional Change And Political Continuity In Post-soviet Center Asia,-power, Perceptions And Pacts (Chapter4to8)

This paper is based on the translation of Institutional Change and PoliticalContinuity in Post-Soviet Center Asia,-Power, Perceptions and Pacts, an academicresearch on Central Asian Geopolitics written by Pauline Jones Luong, a famousAmerican scholar in Yale University, who makes an indepth analysis of institutionalchange and political continuity in three countries: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan andUzbekistan, formulates a model called TBG, and attempts to find the similarities ofinstitutional change among the three countries with TBG model in the book. Thispaper makes brief summary of the whole translation, raises some difficulties andproblems encountered in translation, and elaborates particularly on the translationprinciples and techniques in terms of the translation of the long English sentences.On the basis of actual translation and referring to theoretical literatures, this paperproposes that the long English sentences should be divided into several kernelChinese sentences in order to obtain a good understanding at first, and then shiftedinto natural and coherent Chinese with clarified meaning by properly adopting suchtranslation techniques as positive sequence, negative sequence, phasing and synthesisetc. Finally, this paper provides suggestion summed up from the translation of thisbook for sharing with readers.
