| This interpretation practice report is a comprehensive introduction, analysis andsummary of the stimulated task of consecutively interpreting The Opening Remarks of theThird Round of China-U.S Strategic and Economic Dialogue, which opened on May9,2011,in Washington, the US. The task was assigned to the author by the tutors who organized aseries of stimulated consecutive interpretation of special fields. The judging panel rated theauthor’s performance as a successful practice for its appropriate speed and smoothness.This report consists of five parts—Task Description, Process Description, Preparationsbefore Translation, Case Analysis and Practice Summary. The first two parts are ageneralization of the nature and particulars of this interpreting. The third part describes thepreparations made before the interpreting by the author. The core of the report, the part ofCase Analysis discusses according to the principles and skills of interpreting the merits anddemerits of the stimulated consecutive interpreting. The discussion is conducted with livingexamples coming from this practice itself.In Translation Summary emphasis is placed on the knowledge that interpreting is themost comprehensive use of knowledge and skills and that speed is the key of interpreting.Beginning interpreters shall not be able to interpret faithfully, smoothly and quickly unlessthey persevere in practice and build up their living experience. |
