With the encouragement from the open cultural policy in the last century, many cultural governmental departments make great effort in promoting broad and profound Chinese civilization to the world that have obtained many obvious achievements. The prosperity of inbound tourism in China comes to be a great example. Thereinto, tourism translation which functions to introduce sight spots deserves much of the credit for foreign tourists better knowing about and understand our fine culture, while exhibition translation found in museums and other tourist spots also serves to promote culture. These two types of translation have the same purpose of promoting culture in common, but bear their own distinctions in terms of channel and function as well. They supplement each other and none can be dispensed with.In practice, however, there are numerous problems and errors in the translation of tourist materials, which leads from the lack of the relevant standard in this field and the limitation in the competence of translators. These problems appear not only at the linguistic level, but also at the cultural level, and for the latter one, the controversy and disagreement caused by the application of different strategies seem to be more serious. What’s more, these errors and problems will cause tremendous influence on foreign tourists’ interpretation on Chinese culture. This thesis consists of five parts in total. The first part contributes to the introduction of our nation’s cultural tourism and the function of museums in cultural promotion as well as the development of cultural relics’ translation; the second parts lies in the elaboration of Skopos Theory of the Germany functional school and the dual properties of tourism&exhibition translation; the third parts lists several cultural relics’ translation in the Shaanxi History Museum; the fourth part supplies some translation approaches aiming at improve the contemporary cultural relics, raised by author; the five part concludes the advantages and disadvantages of cultural relics’ translation in the Shaanxi History Museum and provides some suggestions for the translation in history museums within our country as well as the implications and shortcomings of the thesis. It is hoped that the suggested translation approaches for cultural elements in this thesis can offer the assistance to the bilingual communication in tourism industry in the future, promote the inbound tourism and makes a contribution in the promotion of Chinese fine culture.
