Great emphasis has been put on tourism English translation in recent years.Meanwhile more and more bilingual textbooks have appeared with the deepening international exchange. The translation project is a combination of tourism English translation and textbook translation. The source text is from a bilingual textbook development project of Aviation and Tourism School of Shandong Foreign Languages Vocational College. The author participated in Chinese-English translation of the first chapter of the textbook titled A Survey of Source Countries and Regions for Chinese Tourism. There is a comparative lack of researches on translation of bilingual textbooks in specific fields at the moment. The report includes task description, process description and case analysis,in which the author analyzes common problems in translation of this kind of texts at lexical level, syntactic level and textual level. The guideline of the translation is the theory of text typology of Reiss.According to her theory,a textbook aims to convey facts and belongs to typical informative texts, whose translation method is mainly literal translation. But tourism materials belong to operative texts, whose translation requires the translator to make adjustments without influencing the original meaning. The author put the textbook function of the material in the first place and focused on exact understanding and conveying of the information of the ST.Considering that the text has many features of tourism texts, the author adopted many translation techniques on tourism translation, making a combination of the two text types appropriately. The translation practice can be a reference and an inspiration for translation of textbooks, tourism texts and texts with combined features. The author has improved translation abilities not only in practice but also in theory.Firstly, the text type must be considered before translation so that proper translation methods can be determined.Secondly, the author should consider from the perspective of target readers and avail of translation techniques flexibly. In conclusion, there are but not fixed translation methods and more translation practice and more reflection are necessary.
