It’s one of the most significant phenomena in Chinese movies that HongKong directors are going northwards to mainland China after1997. The influence madeby mainland China on Hong Kong is becoming evident, not only in economics andpolitics, but also in culture. It especially represent in movies, for it’s an epitome ofculture.Hong Kong movies has had a golden times in the past, but hard times came after in1990’s. The recovery is coming gradually. The market of mainland China provoke therecovery. At the same time, Hong Kong movie makers are formative influenceconsidering the new market when producing. They are changing slowly to adapt to themerging trend of Chinese movies, while showing uncomfortable.It will be discussed in four part in this article about the phenomenon that HongKong directors going northwards to mainland China in order to understand the problemsand find out reasons. At the same time, this article will also try to find the advantage ofHong Kong movies which has supported its golden times. The merging trend of Chinesemovies will also be discussed about, in which we may get the direction of Hong Kongmovies’ future. Haoxiang Peng, the Hong Kong new director and his works will be usedas examples when discussing the possibility of Hong Kong movies’ future.
