Strategies Of "Positive Misinterpretation" For Press Conference In The Perspective Of Skopostheorie

Recently, interpreters play a very important role in press conference. Positive misinterpretation strategy is widely used by interpreters in press conference. Positive mistranslation strategy is interpreter’s creative translation in order to reproduce the original style perfectly. The meaning of an interpretation is similar to the original one, conveys the most important message and obtains the maximal equivalence on grammar or pragmatic communication.In order to apply the positive misinterpretation strategy widely to the field of interpretation, this paper analyzes the positive misinterpretation strategies in press conference by combining with the previous research on misinterpretation in press conference. According to Skopostheorie, this paper tries to extend positive misinterpretation to the field of interpreting. Therefore, Skopostheorie provides a useful theoretical guidance to the positive misinterpretation strategy.This paper is aimed to analyze the positive misinterpretation strategies for press conference under the guidance of Skopostheorie. This paper analyzes the basic form and characters of positive misinterpretation under the guidance of Skopostheorie. Taking the interpretation materials of premier Wen Jiabao’s press conference after the NPC and CPPCC sessions in the year of2012and the press conference of the5th Session of the11th National People’s Congress as examples, this paper shows the basic quality and the recreation of the interpreter.By analyzing the interpreting of premier Wen Jiabao’s press conference after the NPC and CPPCC sessions in the year of2012and the press conference of the5th Session of the11th National People’s Congress, the following conclusions are drawn from the comparative study in this dissertation. An interpreter should improve their personal quality and have a full preparation for a press conference. An interpreter should make listeners cleared by presenting an interpreter’s creativity and using the positive misinterpretation strategies reasonably. The positive misinterpretation strategies have four basic manifestations in press conference without changing the original meaning. They are addition, omission, alteration and reorganization and they are purposefully operated under the guidance of Skopostheorie. Using the positive misinterpretation strategies reasonably could let the listeners comprehend the translation of original meaning clearly and totally. Positive misinterpretation strategies are very important strategies under the guidance of Skopostheorie. Therefore, making good use of the positive misinterpretation could avoid mistakes and fulfill the interpretation work perfectly.
