Guided by the German functionalist translation theory, this paper discusses the limitationand exercise of interpreter’s subjectivity in class interpreting which is based on the author’sown experience in2013. Although the interpreter is restricted by abstract terms, incoherentconversations, different cultural backgrounds and even his own fatigue, it is possible forthe interpreter to facilitate the communication between two sides by exercising hissubjectivity and adopting practical strategies. This paper has two main perspectives on howto exercise interpreter’s subjectivity. On one hand, the interpreter can use ellipsis,amplification, paraphrasing and zero interpreting as major strategies betweensource-language text and target-language text. On the other hand, the interpreter should actas an actor or a teaching assistant by making use of his activeness, creativity, andself-expression, so he can help the audience and speaker make effective communication. Itis hoped that this paper could provide a clear insight into the interpreter’s subjectivity inclass interpreting and some strategies proposed in this study could solve real problems.
