In recent years, the upsurge of red tourism has arisen gradually in China and has aroused the interests of domestic tourists. With the exchanges between China and the world becoming increasingly frequent, foreign tourists show strong interest in China’s red tourism. Then, red tourism translation also emerges as the time’s requirement. Translation of red tourist attractions can make foreign tourists understand and obtain the relevant knowledge of culture and history, enhance the comprehension of Chinese revolutionary history, strengthen cultural exchanges between China and the world, and attract more foreign visitors to promote the development of local economy.This article attempts to use Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory as a guide to conduct the preliminary research and exploration on the red tourist attractions translation. The author will analyze the English versions of red tourism attractions in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan area from the perspective of functional equivalence theory, try to find out the problems, discuss the guiding role of the functional equivalence theory in the practice of red tourism translation, and put forward several applied translation methods for red tourism attractions. According to the principles of Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory and based on the careful study of the improper cases of the English versions of red tourism attractions in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan area, this paper thinks that the red tourism translation should pay attention to the target reader’s response and promote Chinese culture and history. In addition, the political significance of the red tourism and the characteristics that it services foreign tourists makes translator should be particularly cautious in translation and find an optimal way to deal with these cultural information. Under the guidance of functional equivalence translation theory, this paper summers up the strategies and methods of red tourism translation finally, such as foreignization, conciseness, and expression, with supplement of domestication, amplification, and implication.The study on red tourism translation has just started currently. Only a few people pay attention to this study and therefore the discussion on the study of red tourism translation is of some theoretical and practical significance. Through the research of the original English translation of Red Tourism Attractions in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Area, this article try to find out the more suitable translation strategies, further improve the existing translations to help to improve the international status of red tourism attractions in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Area, enhance the development of the local economic and strengthen the international communication of Chinese red tourism culture.
