Simultaneous Interpreting Practice Report

Simultaneous interpreting is the practice that the emotion and thoughts expressedorally by another language at the same pace with the speaker. Differences betweenChinese and English, lead to the emergence of redundancy in the process ofinterpretation. To improve the effectiveness and quality of simultaneousinterpretation, the interpreter should have good psychological quality and languageskills, including the ability to deal with redundant components.This report includes four major parts—the task description, the proceduredescription, the case analysis and the conclusion. The task description gives an overallintroduction to the task, concerning with the task background, the task requirementand the task characteristics. The procedure description presents the detailed steps tofulfill the task. The case analysis uses Ma Yun/Jack Ma’s speech in the second sessionof applied e-commerce talent forum as the materials to be analyzed. With thecomparison between the original and the target interpreting, a specific analysis ismade on the simultaneous interpreting process from the redundancy aspects in termsof language structure, and rhetorical repetition theory.In short, this report hopefully may be helpful for further understanding of thesimultaneous interpreting practice and particularly helpful for the interpretingconcerned.
