A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of China Market Entry Handbook

With the acceleration of global economic integration, international trade is becoming increasingly frequent. Business English, meanwhile, is attracting more attention from scholars than ever before. Business English translation, therefore, has become a hotspot in the research of translation since it has proved an important bridge to promote international trade cooperation and has been widely used in various fields.Translation is a dynamic process to accurately reproduce the meaning of a source-language text in another language (technically called the target language). Because of her intense interest in business field and her enrolment in the master’s program in translation, the author chooses to translate the first five chapters of a consultation handbook, which is titled China Market Entry Handbook that was published in June2013. These five chapters contain the following contents:an overview of China, establishment of a legal entity, taxation of foreign company, personnel employment, and tax on personal income. The original text involves a large quantity of interdisciplinary professional knowledge and complex sentence structures. The author completed the translation of these five chapters under the guidance of Functional Translation Theory.The innovation of this report lies in its content, which is not confined within a single field of media study, or tourism or science or technology, but contains knowledge about law, economics and other fields. The author tries to analyze and summarize the corresponding translation strategies adopted during the translation of this handbook. It is hoped that this report will prove to be of some value to MTI trainers and trainees as well as to the professional development of this author herself in the future.
