With the opening up of our country and the increase of mutual communication between our culture and foregin cultures, more and more foreginers take to Huangmei opera, which raises the demand of translated texts and operas in foregin languages. This is a translation report on The History of Anhui Opera Theatre (1953-2003), which describes one Chinese to English task extracted from The History of Anhui Opera Theatre. In this report, the author analyses the difficulties in this translation task and use appropriate translation strategies under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s translation theory of Functional Equivalence to cope with them.In this translation task, there are two main problems. First is the translation of vocabularies with the cultural information. In coping with this problem, the author took many related books for reference and researched some Huangmei opera culture and the Chinese history. The second problem is the translation of complex sentences. As to this problem, the author tried to use appropriate traslation strategies on the perspective of Functional Equivalence. The report is composed of four chapters. It begins with the introduction of The History of Anhui Opera Theatre. Chapter two is an introduction to the task on the perspective of the authors of the book, contents and analysis of the contents. Chapter three is the core of the report. The report adopts the functional translation theory to cope with the difficulties in this translation task with a number of examples. Chapter four is the conclusion of the report.
