Since the beginning of the 21 st century, human’s mental health has become more and more prominent because of the rapid development of society and fast-paced city-life.For women,it is traditional culture, social competition and the transition between multiple roles that have led to great pressure on their psychology.Women’s mental health has increasingly become a hot issue all over the world. Therefore,it is necessary to use translation theories and techniques appropriately to translate relevant books and help women alleviate anxiety.Taking the first six chapters of A Radical Awakening written by an Indian psychology professor Shefali Tsabary as source text, the translator completed the translation report according to the practice. This work aims to encourage women to re-examine themselves, dare to break free from the shackles of life, family and society, turn pain into wisdom and strength, and finally reborn. This psychological work is a book with various complex sentences and some professional relevant knowledge. How to clearly analyze the structures of complex sentences and convey the ideas of the source text with professional and authentic expression are directly affect the quality of the translation and the feelings of readers. Therefore, the translation of complex sentences is presented as the primary example of this report.Based on the essential attribute of translation,American linguist Eugene A Nida first proposed the far-reaching “functional equivalence theory”,which refers to the realization of functional equivalence between two different languages through appropriate selection and adoption of various translation techniques rather than pursuing mechanical correspondence whether in literal or formats or being overly limited by the source text. Therefore, guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this report analyzes the structures of complex sentences in the source text, and some translation techniques—reversion, division, comprehensive translation and so on are selected to translate complex sentences to achieve functional equivalence between the source text and the translation.According to the translation practice and the report, the translator found that functional equivalence theory and the application of appropriate translation techniques have certain guiding significance for the translation of psychological works.Meanwhile,it is hoped to deepen the translator’s understanding and mastery of functional equivalence theory and translation techniques of complex sentences. It aims to achieve the purpose of analyzing problems and to solve problems,so as to enrich the translator’s experience of translation and improve her translation ability.Last but not least, the translator hopes that this report can provide certain reference significance for the translation task of similar topics in the future.
