Teaching Chinese characters is always a difficult point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Through a lot of analysis the author divide these difficulties into four parts:hard to read、hard to recognize、hard to write and hard to remember, and put forward corresponding teaching strategies. These four parts make up an indivisible whole. Because solving the reading and recognizing of Chinese characters are the foundation of solving the writing and remembering of Chinese characters. Meanwhile, solving the recognizing of Chinese characters is the foundation and the key to solving the other difficulties of Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This article mainly uses the Chinese characters from800first rate Chinese characters as examples to explain difficulties of Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, explains the part of hard to recognize Chinese characters in detail.This article is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, mainly introduce the selected topic background, research aim and the research methods. The second chapter mainly introduce the difficulties of Chinese characters in teaching Chinese as a foreign language:hard to read, hard to recognize, hard to write and hard to remember. The third chapter mainly introduce the reason and the teaching strategy of "hard to read". The fourth chapter mainly introduce the reason and the teaching strategy of "hard to recognize". The fifth chapter mainly introduce the reason and the teaching strategy of "hard to write". The sixth chapter mainly introduce the reason and the teaching strategy of "hard to remember". The last chapter is the conclusion.
