Nowadays more and more international conferences are held in China, and this bringsabout more opportunities and higher requirements for interpreters. This report focuses onthe Chinese-English consecutive interpreting of the host’s words and opening ceremonyspeeches at the2013China International Ceramics Exhibition held in Zibo city, ShandongProvince.This simulated consecutive interpreting task, guided by the Interpretive Theory ofTranslation, treats interpreting as a dynamic process and focuses on transmitting the senseof the source texts through three steps: comprehension, de-verbalization and reformulation.This report consists of four chapters. Chapter1describes the requirements for theinterpreting task and the pre-interpretation preparations. Chapter2introduces theInterpretive Theory of Translation while illustrating how to apply this theory in the task.Chapter3, from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory of Translation, elaborates on thespecific interpreting strategies adopted in the task at both lexical level and syntactic level.Chapter4is conclusion and stresses on the importance for interpreters to use thesestrategies flexibly based on relevant contexts.
