Simulated Interpreting Report Of The Opening Ceremony Of Wuhan Open Volunteer Program Under The Guidance Of The Interpretive Theory

With the increasing cooperation between China and other countries,sports events,cultural festivals have been internationalized.In these external activities,the leaders,and representatives will make speeches to promote the communication.The ceremonial speeches are important forms of promoting international exchanges and displaying national images.Although there are few professional items in the speech,it also puts forward higher requirements on the interpreter's linguistic ability.From the perspective of the interpretive theory,this report uses the practice of simulated interpreting of the Opening Ceremony of Wuhan Open Volunteer Program as a case study,on the basis of the characteristics of opening speeches in ceremonial interpreting.The interpreting activities are divided into three steps:comprehension,de-verbalization,and re-expression.After a detailed analysis of the process,the author finally put forward a series of interpreting strategies that were applied to provide some useful experience for opening ceremony interpreters in the future.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the task and briefly describes the background,process,purpose and significance of the task.The second chapter is the literature review,which introduces the definitions and characteristics of interpretive theory and ceremonial interpretation as well as the development of historical research.It also analyzes the application of interpretive theory in ceremonial interpretation.The third chapter introduces the process of interpreting tasks in details,including the preparation before interpreting,problems and the corresponding solutions in the process and the after-interpreting work.The theoretical basis in pre-interpreting involves three translation levels of interpretive theory and the triangle model.The fourth chapter is a case study.From the perspective of interpretive theory,it analyzes the interpretation problems in short-term memory,note-taking and re-expression.The thesis then proposes a couple of solutions and strategies to tackle these problems:retelling and various approaches of information processing.On lexical and syntactic level,the re-expression includes understanding and summarizing the abbreviation of titles and culture-loaded words,official expressions of greetings and division and generalization of long sentences.The fifth part summarizes the contents of this interpreting report.
