With the advancement of reform and opening-up as well as the development ofglobalization, political speeches have been one of the crucial ways for state leaders to expressviews and deepen the diplomatic ties with other countries.This practice report, with the guidance of Interpretive Theory, is aimed at analyzing theprocess of Obama’s Speech in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum in2009andelaborating the main interpreting strategies adopted in this simulated interpreting.This report consists of four chapters. The first chapter, as the task description, introducesthe background information of the simulated interpreting, an overall survey of Obama’sSpeech in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, and the features of this speech. Thesecond chapter describes the process description and preparations, including pre-interpretationpreparations, interpreting process and quality control devices. The third chapter involves caseanalysis which, guided by the Interpretive Theory, expounds specific interpreting strategiesadopted in this simulated interpreting at word level and sentence level. The fourth chapter isconclusion, summarizing the enlightenments from this simulated interpreting and the guidingsignificance of Interpretive Theory. It is expected that it will be beneficial for political speechinterpreting. |
