A Report On Interpreting Practice Of The Simulated BRICS Meeting From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

In the modern world, more and more frequent exchanges have been conducted among different cultures. However, languages are the prominent obstacles in communication. As a bridge for communication, interpreting plays an increasingly important role in this process. Simultaneous interpreting, which enjoys the advantages of high efficiency, short time lag and no disruption of a meeting etc, has become the first choice for international meetings. Hence, explorations on simultaneous interpreting are of practical significance.This report is based on the interpreting experience of a simulated BRICS meeting.The BRICS consists of five countries---Brazil, Russia, Indian, China, and South Africa. Issues and contents of the annual BRICS meeting are different. In general,discussions are made on international situation, international economy, financial problems, cooperation as well as development. This interpreting practice is performed mainly by means of simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting as a supplement.This report describes the whole process of the simulated BRICS meeting and comprehensively demonstrates four strategies guided by Interpretive Theory. The practice report consists of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part is the introduction. It briefly introduces the background information of this meeting, presents problems existing in the whole process and explores the significance of studying conference interpreting.The second is the main body which is made up of three chapters.Chapter one refers to task description. The interpreter (?) introduces the background information and analyzes the characteristics of this task. Interpretive Theory is illustrated briefly.Chapter two concentrates on process description. This chapter is divided into three steps. The first step is pre-interpreting preparation, mainly focusing on vocabularies as well as long and difficult sentences. The second step is the execution of interpreting. In the while-interpreting process, major problems leading to lots of obstacles are listed and analyzed. The third step is the reflection after interpreting. The interpreter (?) reviews the whole process of interpreting and summarizes the problems that occurred in the interpreting process.Chapter three is case analysis which embraces the essence of the report. Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory, the interpreter (?) adopts four common tactics and gives some typical cases to better elaborate how to deal with the difficulties that occurred in the interpreting process.The third part is the conclusion. The interpreter (?) reflects on the whole interpreting practice and summarizes the lessons and experience learned from the task.
