During the1930s, the creation of city novels reached a high level. At this period, modern ideas and urban trend came into fierce collision and blending with traditional ideas and local flavor. The survival states of Beijing School and Shanghai writers, as well as their different describing about urban lives, are different with each other. Beijing writers look at unban from the perspective of rural. They criticized that urban life alienates of the human nature and weakens the vitality of human. For the Shanghai writers, since they lack of specific rural experience, their description of urban have little residue about native characteristics. This article intended to re-define the native characteristics in the unban novels of Beijing School and Shanghai writers. The article also try to describe the fusion condition of urban and country at this period, and then to analysis the influence of native characteristics on the aesthetics of urban novels. This thesis involves three chapters, and the main content of each chapter is as follows:The introduction briefly describes the creation background of Beijing School urban novels and Shanghai urban novels in1930s. This chapter also makes a specific definition about the native characteristics in the Chinese Modern Literature. Specifically, the "native characteristics" has two meanings:First, the traditional cultural and psychological structure of rural society; and second, the feelings of homesickness issued by the word of "hometown ".The first chapter studies the native characteristics of Beijing School Urban Fiction. Beijing writers imaged a fictitious picture through their own humanity imagination. Specifically speaking:the urban and the country not only oppose each other but also formulate each other. They are existed as opposites. However, there are not intrinsic differences between the urban and the country in Beijing school’s novels. Instead, they have the potential similarities. Generally speaking, the character and the scene in the Beijing School’s urban novels have double imprinting about the native China and modern China. The native characteristics are inherited in the Beijing School urban novels. The second chapter studies the remains and fractures of native characteristics in Shanghai urban novels. The remains of native characteristics mainly reflected in three aspects:Firstly, criticise urban crime with local traditional morality, Secondly, the reservation of traditional family values and love concept. Thirdly, the instinct longing of the urban lives; the fractures of native characteristics also mainly reflected in three aspects:First, local is invisible seen as isomorphic death or loss; Second, the space-time vortex appears in Shanghai urban novels, Local scene shows the characteristics of tininess, complanation and fragmentation; third, the country becomes the extension of the city. The third chapter mainly studies the imaginative writing of native soil in Shanghai and Beijing urban novels and its impact on novel aesthetic characteristics. Beijing school novels take illusory native aesthetic utopia as reference of cities; cities also would be a kind of fantasy and imagination. Illusoriness has a dual effect on aesthetic characteristics of Beijing urban novels:one is to make the Beijing urban novels escape from the bondage of "Obsession with China" to some extent, and can probe into soul and spirit of the characters; on the other hand, it caused the gap between the Beijing urban novels and the reality, lead to the deficiency of details, the writing of city is partial. Shanghai urban novels are romantic because of the localism remained in them. The weak local imagination in Shanghai urban novels to is not enough to become the spirit resources for city people to reflect on modern urban civilization, this makes the Shanghai urban novels descend to vacuous tragedies. Conclusion part of this article summarized the main research found in this paper, stated the innovation points and research contributions, and put forward the possible research direction in the future.
