The Features And Translation Strategies Of Technical Document

With the continuous development of modern science and technology, technical textshave become important targets of translation. The main characteristics of technical textinclude: language specification, style simplicity and professionalism. The translation oftechnical documents is different from literary translation. The reader of technicaldocuments mostly have certain professional background, therefore they don’t pay muchattention to the beauty of language, but more on the profession of language.This paper mainly explains the characteristics at vocabulary and sentence levels: Thecharacteristic in terms of vocabulary in technical documents is the extensive use ofprofessional terms. The characteristic in terms of sentence is extensive use of professionaltranslation.On this basis, this paper provides translation solutions for the technicaldocument translation at vocabulary and sentence levels. For the vocabulary, the solutionsare:(1) glossary building: specific words have specific expressions;(2) TM (TranslationMemory), referring to the translation style of specific words used in the process oftranslation. For the sentences: the solutions are：(1) TM stipulates specific expressions ofspecific words; and (2) Style guide which stipulates the style of sentences.
