A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Technical Operation Guide

Nowadays,technical products are developed and upgraded at an unbelievable speed.As a kind of technical text,the technical operation guide is a necessity to illustrate the use of technical products.Therefore,the translation of technical operation guide has a great market demand.The technical operation guide gives assistance to people using a particular product.Thus,the quality of the translation directly decides the customer experience and the product security,thereby further influencing the sustainable development of an enterprise.This is a practice report based on the author's translation practice.Based on the detailed analysis of the English technical operation guide from its function,language style,and target readership,the author explores the problems in the C-E translation of technical operation guide and puts forward corresponding solutions under the guidance of Peter Newmark's text typology theory and communicative translation.First,the operational steps in the source text are not friendly to users.The author needs to divide more than two operations in a step and to adjust disordered operational steps.Second,the source text contains redundant and repeated information.The author needs to delete the redundant information and to combine the repeated information.Third,the source text has implied information.In order to express the information clearly and accurately,the author needs to add necessary information and to represent the implied information.Fourth,for non-subject sentences,the author needs to add subjects or make a shift of voice to provide smooth English sentences.This report makes preliminary research on the C-E translation of technical operation guide and is expected to shed some light on the translation in this field.
