The development of science and technology has promoted the development of the global economy as well as the study in the translation of technical texts. Although technical texts are different from other types of text, its translation practice can be properly guided by Skopostheorie, one of the most important theories of German functionalist. This thesis first introduces the basic theory of Skoposheorie and further elaborates its three important rules including the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, so as to demonstrate that Skopostheorie can be the solid theory foundation for the translation of technical texts. Taking the writer’s E-C translation of Mastering OpenCV with Practical Computer Vision Projects which is a book on computer vision, the thesis then from the perspective of Skopostheorie further provides evidence that it is valid to apply Skopostheorie in the technical translation. Lastly, it discusses, taking examples from the translation of the computer vision book, how the translator chose translating strategies or methods when she was confronted difficulties in translation words, sentences with post attributive and long sentences as well as problems in discourse during the whole process of the translation practice. As for the translation of word level, the translator can change the inflection of English words into the Chinese word meaning, can translate the non-predicate verbs into other forms in Chinese, and also can converse the part of speech between English and Chinese words. As for the sentence translation in the technical texts, the translator, not sticking to the structure of sentences, can deal with the sentences with post attributive by adopting linear translation method or putting the attributive in advance and translate the long sentences with division method. As for the problems in discourse, the translator should focus on the discourse coherence and cohesion through logic analysis and judges and should try to maintain the rhetorical features by proper wording. With a purpose of providing some valuable references to the translators who are engaged in the translation of technical texts, the thesis tries to show that the translation of technical texts is not only the results of the experience, but also can be guided by Skopostheorie.
