This is a report on the translation ofTravel around China published by ChinaTourism Press, of which the parts about Linzhi and Ali constitute the source text.These two parts mainly introduce the main scenic spots in Linzhi and Ali of Tibet.The main contents of this report are divided into five parts: Part One is theintroduction, including project background, structure and significance. Part Two isthe background of the source text, including the main contents and the significanceof the source text. Part Three introduces the theoretical basis during translation. PartFour provides abundant examples to present the translation methods employeddealing with difficulties in translation. Part Five sums up the lessons learned as wellas some unsolved problems during translation.Taking the source text as the research object, the source text is a tourist one.Through analysis, functional equivalence theory is considered to be a guidingsignificance on translating the tourist text. Translation methods including literaltranslation, free translation and omission are applied in the light of readers’ reception.These flexible and various methods will effectively help present characteristics andcultural information of the source text. It is hoped that this report offers a goodexample for translation of tourist texts in the future.
