This is a translation report on A short Introduction to Psychotherapy by RobinHobbes, of which Chapter2and Chapter3is the source text. The source text mainlyevolves therapeutic application, dividing this world of multiple styles, theories andmethodologies into four sections: Psychodynamic, Cognitive and Behavioural, Familyand Humanistic including Integrative psychotherapies, and responds to theeffectiveness of psychotherapy.It provides readers or starterswho will get an idea ofthe wide variety of applications and take some route that reflects their ownphilosophywith practical guidance through examples in each therapeutic application.The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Part One is thetranslation project description, including project background, objectives andsignificance. Part Two is the study backgroundwhich contains the theoretical basisFunctional Equivalence and the introduction of the source text. Part Three is about thedifficulties and methods used during the translation process. The source text is aboutpsychology and the difficulties lie in the accurate translation of various terminologyand examples.The translator needs to refer to a lot of materials to achieve accuracy.The methods include: part-of-speech adjustment, conversion, addition and reduction.The utilization of these techniques fully proved the practicability of the FunctionalEquivalence Theory. Part Four concludes with the lessons, implications and unsolvedproblems in the translation project.
