Based on the original text "Chapter2--The Formal Beginnings:Three Traditions of ’PSYCHOLOGY OF RELIGION: CLASSIC&CONTEMPORARY (SECOND EDITION)’" written by David M·Wulff and its translation text, this report provides a comprehensive analysis and summary of the translation practice according to the theoretical use of "dynamic equivalence" during the practice. The original text has about14300words and the transaltion text, about28200words. I translated this project firstly since no Chinese version of the work has existed yet in China unitl now through my retrieval and query.Guided by "dynamic equivalence" theory and combining analyses of the original text and target text, this report attempts to explore a guiding function of the vocabulary equivalence, sentence equivalence, discourse equivalence and stylistic equivalence of "dynamic equivalence" to the tranlation of such text in order to seek appropriate translation approaches. This report includes four parts:translation task description, translation process, translation difficulties and methods as well as a review and summary of the practice. Translation task description mainly introduces the background, target and significance of the project. Translation process describes the translation process of the project from three aspects, namely, preparation, text analysis of the original text and the translation text. Part three has a specific analysis of the translation approaches and strategies adopted in the project with some representative translations of words, expressions and sentences. The last part analyzes the translation of the first draft and has a review of it. Then, it summarizes some experience and lessons learned from the English-Chinese translation and problems to be solved.Translation of this project hopefully can provide the research of the psychology of religion with a text for reference and enrich the resource bank of it so as to promote the propagation of psychology of religion. Meanwhile, the application of "dynamic equivalence" theory to guide the translation practice will deepen the understanding of the theroy itself and contribute to improve my translation as well as enhance my ability to guide the translation practice with translation theory.
