This translation practice report is a comprehensive translation consideration of the E-C translation of Handbook of Social Psychology(the second edition),edited by John Delamater and Amanda Ward.This handbook mainly introduces the latest research results and empirical research methods of foreign social psychology research field,analyzing the socialization of children and adolescents as well as personal and interpersonal problems encountered in the process of communication.Under the background that domestic and foreign scholars pay more and more attention to the psychological research of children and adolescents,putting their most recent research results and empirical research methods into Chinese and analyzing them with the translation theory,which enables us to learn the latest achievements in the development of foreign psychology,at the same time it can also promote the translation practice of social science texts.Based on Nida’s Theory of Functional Equivalence,this translation practice report combines the target reader’s cognition and needs of social behavior process and discusses the methods and strategies for translation of social psychology texts.Nida’s Theory of Functional Equivalence provides methodological guidance for the translation exploration of social science texts.The author of this thesis combines the text features and the specific contents of translation practice in the first and third chapters of Handbook of Social Psychology and analyzes the guiding role of this theory in the E-C translation practice from three dimensions of functional equivalence,namely,lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,and chapter equivalence,combining the examples of the text and discussing the specific polysemy and social psychology professional terminology at the level of lexical equivalence,and the passive sentences,nominal structural sentences and long sentences at the sentences level as well as the translation strategies and methods applied to the whole text cohesion and semantic coherence,based on the characteristics of the text,the author of this thesis summaries the corresponding translation strategies and combines case analysis with theory so as to deepen the understanding of functional equivalence theory and at the same time improve the translator’s translation level.This translation practice report summarizes the translation behavior process of social psychology texts and carefully discusses the guiding role of functional equivalence theory in translation of targeted texts.The author of this thesis summarizes the translation strategies and methods applicable to the texts of social psychology in this paper.While providing some theoretical references,the author of this thesis can also arouse the society as a whole and pay close attention to development of children and adolescents.
