Long sentences are one of the major features of English. Because there is a big difference between the writing structures of English and Chinese, in the process of translation, the translation of long sentences has always been an important aspect. In maritime literature, long English sentences appear very frequently. Combined with the author’s translation practice on marine-related texts, this report discusses the translation methods of long English sentences in maritime literature. With the purpose of making the translation more smoothly and more in line with the target language habits, the report mainly introduces the use of four methods. They are sequential method, reverse order method, combined method of sequential and reverse order, and turning phrases into clauses. These four methods are provided with examples and analyzed in detail in this report.
