This paper is a report on English to Chinese simultaneous interpreting (E-C SI)without text; the dissertation describes one SI task conducted by the author for the2013Australian Wine Tasting in Hebei Normal University. This report analyzes theinterpretation of the speech delivered by Garry Zerbe, the president of Box Stallion, and it discusses the difficulties of E-C SI and the challenges Australian English bringsto interpreter as well as possible coping strategies and solutions. This report divides “pre-interpreting preparation” into two phases, each with adifferent focus and function, and presents the transcript of both the original speechand the author’s interpretation, from which the examples are selected for furtheranalysis from the following three perspectives:(1) Strategy of simplification,(2)Challenges the Australian English brings to interpreter,(3) Analysis of correction, hesitation and omission.Through the description and analysis of this task, we found the importance ofpre-interpreting preparation which will affect the interpreter’s performance in targetSI task. On the other hand, we should attach importance to the characteristics of SIand guarantee the on-site effects by using corresponding strategies. Meanwhile, theaccent of the speaker should be taken account into interpreter’s preparation work.
