The study aims to investigate the psychological capital status of tertiary vocational freshmen, and the relationship between their psychological capital and self-esteem. A trial psychological capital model of tertiary vocational freshmen was constructed, and.the effect of group counseling intervention on tertiary vocational freshmen psychological capital was also discussed.Study1 :365freshmen in two higher vocational colleges in Suzhou were randomly selected. “PPQ”and "Rosenberg self-esteem scale" were used to evaluate their psychological capital status. Additionally, the original psychological capital data of participants were collected using in-depth interview adopting the coding idea based on grounded theory, in order to construct a psychological capital model of tertiary vocational freshmen. Study2:14 freshmen with a lower level of psychological capital were chosen to participate in group counseling intervention.The results are showed as follows:(1) Generally, the psychological capital level of tertiary vocational freshmen is relatively good., with its score higher than the theoretical average.(2) There is no significant difference in their psychological capital between participants with different genders,residence places and whether he/she is the onlychild in family.(3) Psychological capital levels of the tertiary vocational freshmen are related with their self-esteem levels, and relationship issignificant regarding hope dimension.(4)The positive psychological capital questionnaire scores of tertiary vocational freshmen who have a relatively low level of psychological capital level are significant different before and after they received group counseling intervention. Significant difference in scores was also obtained in the continued significant delay measurement three months later. This shows that group counseling intervention is effective in improving psychological capital status of tertiary vocational freshmen.
