National requirements for the vocational education quality have been graduallyincreasing. Most of all it has new requirements on cultivation of students’ lifelonglearning ability, employability, pioneering work ability and moral education. As animportant part of the curriculum in secondary vocational school, English courses playan irreplaceable role in cultivating students’ cultural accomplishment andcomprehensive ability. So is very necessary to carry out scientific development forEnglish courses.At present, the teaching of cultural courses, especially English teaching hasmany problems, such as the weak foundation of students, lack of interest in learning,teachers’ traditional English teaching methods, obsolete teaching content, unitaryteaching form, unreasonable courses arrangement which are influencing the Englishteaching of secondary vocational school.The purpose of the paper is to reform secondary Vocational school’s Englishcourses to offer courses according to the students’ majors and learning foundation,tochange the traditional curriculum evaluation methods which evaluating whetherstudents can master grammar and vocabulary into evaluating the listening andspeaking ability and comprehensive ability of using English. Through this we canenhance their interest in learning English and improve the level of English teaching toprepare for meeting the needs of the society better in the future.The paper sketches out the development models of domestic and foreigncurriculum. It is guided by curriculum theory and multiple intelligence theory,choosing some problems like teaching content,teaching methods, teaching mode andclass arrangement in English teaching. It takes the image design major inQinhuangdao Vocational Technical School as an example to analyze thecharacteristics of talent cultivation, social needs, students’ foundation, situation ofteachers and requirements for English courses of this major, so as to construct the principles of curriculum development, objectives of English curriculum, curriculumstructure, curriculum content, teaching methods and evaluation system of Englishcourses for image designing major.
