China enjoys the name of world factory, and behind it there are millions of hard-working machinery-workers. They did their own contributions for the economic development of their country. But most of them will face to a plateau during the course of career development, which means they can’t a chance to get promoted or the position they can hold only limited to be the low level. So, according to qualitative research this paper aims to focus on this phenomenon.Taking company H as research background, this research picks eight machinery-workers to do open-ended interview. Two of them are finally taken as the main research objects. Although they have different career development experience, career plateau stays in both their ways to get promoted.Company H is an overseas investment company focused on the production of automobile accessories, with its headquarter in F. Company H also set up a Asia-pacific headquarter in city S, and building a factory in city K in2008. After investment increased in2011, more machinery-workers were needed. But in the process of management, career plateau problems of machinery workers had caused a lot of problems, which led to bad effect to the running of company. So many methods were offered to solve these problems, including work shift and internal recruitment.Even so, those workers whose ages were over thirty got tougher promotion problem for their poor strength. Conflicts became more and more obvious, which forced the leaders in company H strengthen management control over the promotion of low level machinery-workers. According to my investigation, career plateau is a universal phenomenon to those who holds a low-level educated diploma, and most of them choose negative waiting rather than active solving and abandon themselves to despair. So according to a qualitative method to a case study in company H, this paper aims to dig deep the reason to their bottle-neck problems in the process of promotion, and analyze their feelings when they face to such problems. In the method of narrative story, researchers try to show workers’attempts and results. In the end, some solutions will be found out to make breakthrough to career plateau happened on machinery workers. From focusing on the self-factor of employee, the result of this research could be referred to different manufacturing companies.Chapter One, research theme is mainly introduced, including the origin of research, background of research, research status at home and abroad, definition to key words and explanation to research methods.Chapter Two, brief introduction to company H, showing the organizational environment factors influencing the research object’s career development.Chapter Three and Four, case representation and explanation. Trying to get the key events in the course of their career development, and dig out their reactions and behaviors when facing to problems at career plateau. At the same time, caring to developing opportunities offered by company.Chapter Five, research result and conclusion. Looking for all kinds of factors leading to career plateau of machinery workers, and offering helpful advices to solve problems.Taking machinery worker as research object, and with narrative research method researcher focus on their career development. Machinery workers do a great contribution to the development of society with their wisdom and strength, but since most of them come from farmer group who receive less education, they always get stuck in their career development. After they reach some position, there will be narrow room for their further development, which will cease their progress to career plateau. Consequently, caring career plateau phenomenon of machinery worker and do research to their career development will be put on a great meaning.
