The original definition of career plateau put by Ference(1977) refers to "the individual stay at a some stage of his career,in which seldom have the promotion opportunities". With the development of the theory, the connotation of career plateau has developed from the original single dimension structure into multidimensional structure. Factors that affect employees career plateau includes both objective factors, such as age, working age, education level, etc.; Also include employee’s subjective factors such as cognition, feeling and personality.Trait theory created by Little Allport. After the pioneering research by Cattel and Eysenck, Trait theory were gradually formed with vocabulary analysis as it’s research method, data statistics and analysis as it’s for the study of characteristics. In the follow-up studies by some researchers, it finds that five factors model is the most stable personality traits, whatever according to the different vocabulary, or choosed a different test groups, or different analysis methods. McCrae and Costa compiled the NEO-PI personality inventory by using the method of semantic analysis. The five factors of the scale, respectively, is:nervous/mood stability, extraversion, openness, agreeableness and cautious.Prison police in hubei province as an example, this study explores the relationship between personality traits and the prison police career plateau. The research includes three parts.In the first part, we, take the Hubei prison police in Hubei province as sample, to finish the prison police career plateau questionnaire validation study. This research adopted the questionnaire as a research method. According to the Bardwick’s two-factor career plateau theory, Milliman(1992) compiled the career plateau questionnaire. The Milliman’s questionnaire has high reliability and validity of the scale, which widely used in career plateau research. Xuman(2012) extended the Bardwick’s two-factor career plateau theory. She subdivided the hierarchical plateau into structure and mentality plateau according to the controllability of promotion, subdivided the content plateau into skills plateau and content plateau. Then, Xuman revised the questionnaire which using to measure the prison police career plateau. The internal consistency reliability of the revised prison police career plateau questionnaire is0.8207, which has a good structure validity. Before the subsequent relationship research of Hubei’s prison police career plateau and personality traits, we must finish the revision of the Xuman’s prison police career plateau questionnaire due to the problem of sampling. We choosed600prison police from prison in Hubei province as research object. First, after identifying degree analysis and project related to the total score of analysis, we found that a small number of subjects lack of a well identify or distinguish degrees. After the reliability test, we found that reliability not droped after some projects being deleted. After comprehensive consideration, we deleted a few projects under the premise of the theoretical model does not be affected. The new questionnaire’s consistency reliability is improved to0.893. Then we has carried on the exploratory factor analysis to survey data, and delete some of the common degree is low or appear double load item on the premise of theoretical assumptions was not being affected. Finally it is concluded that it has four factors as Xuman’s theory. According to the meaning of the projects, we renamed the four factors of prison police career plateau: hierarchical, skills, content, and self-esteem plateau.In the second part, We found that the age and length of the hubei province prison police career plateau have a significant impact, according to the difference research of demographic variables and the hubei province prison police career plateau. According to the difference research of demography variables of different levels and different dimensions of career plateau, it found that gender, education level, age, working years and other demographic variables vary in different dimensions of career plateau.In the third part, we collected600Hubei province prison police and issued a big five personality questionnaire (NEO-FFi). After the related analysis of the hubei province prison police career plateau and big five personality traits, it found that openness of the big five personality has negative correlation with content plateau and skill plateau; Agreeableness is negatively related to the skill plateau; Cautious is negative correlation with skills plateau. Overall, compared with the demographic variables including age, working years personality, traits have less effect on the prison police career plateau in Hubei province.
