Ideological and political education constitutes an important part of Mao ZedongThought. In the long-term revolution and development, Mao Zedong made manyprofound statements about the ideological and political education of CPC. Moreover,during the ten years from1957to1966when our country was building the socialistsystem in an all-round way, new progress was made on the ideological and politicaleducation theory of Mao Zedong again.The ten-year ranging from1957to1966was a period during which our countrywas building socialist system in an all-respect way. That period witnessed greatchanges in international and domestic situation. Globally, the Western countries ledby America adopt various means to contain the development of China, contradictionsbetween CPC and the Soviet Party gradually intensified,and the bilateral relationsgradually deteriorated.Domestically, changes took place in economy, politics,ideology and culture and the development of CPC. During it, international anddomestic situation imposed profound impacts on the ideological and political theoryof Mao Zedong. During this period, his theory related to ideological and politicaleducation can be summarized as the following four aspects: Firstly, in terms of therole and function of ideological and political education, Mao Zedong believed that itcan ensure that all tasks in the area of economy, technology and military beaccomplished smoothly; promote the ideological transformation of people andstrengthen the solidarity among Party and people; it is an important guarantee for ourcountry to prevent from being subverted by imperialist in peaceful manners.Secondly, as for the fundamental principles of ideological and political education,Mao Zedong thought that in implementing it, we must insist on ideological andpolitical education with administration and keeping it advanced and extensive; wemust insist on combining tangible benefits with intangible encouragement; we mustinsist that the whole society participate in the development and administration.Thirdly, with regard to the contents of ideological and political education, MaoZedong held that in learning the Marxist Theory, we need closely associate it with therealities of our country; we need conduct patriotic, collectivist and socialist educationextensively; we need intensify our education on such revolution spirits as self-relianceand working hard; we need carry on education on correctly coping with problemsamong the people and class struggle. Fourthly, with respect to the chief methods of ideological and political education, Mao Zedong put forward suggestions: convincesomeone by reasoning and persuasive education; call a spade and conduct researchand investigation; cultivate model and let them take initiative; criticize andself-criticize; conduct Rectification Movement in the Party and so forth. Theideological and political education theory of Mao Zedong from1957-1966enrichedand developed the ideological and political education theory of Marxism, and it’s ofof great guiding significance to the Party’s ideological and political education work inthe socialist period.
