Analysis Of China’s Rural Democracy

China is an agricultural country in which farmers take up the majority of its population. Three ruralissues, including agriculture, rural area and farmer issues, play an essential role in the process ofChina’s rise. In the meantime, democracy at the grassroots level must be extended in order to achievethe goal of socialist democratic politics with Chinese characteristics. However, as a significantcomponent of democracy at the grassroots level, the construction of democracy at the grassroots level inrural area, which encompasses the essentials of “three rural issues” as well as grassroots democraticissues, has crucial influence on the development of Chinese socialist democracy at both theoretical andpractical levels. Therefore, starting from the democracy construction at the grassroots level, the thesiscombines relevant research results with Miyun County Xinchengzi Town Bagezhuang Village, aimingto explain the current situation and present issues existing in the construction of grassroots democracyin rural area, analyze the reasons and give suggestions.Interview and documentary methods are applied in this thesis, which helps master the theory andstatistics as well as understand the sample. The combination will contribute to drawing the conclusionand solving of the problems.The thesis contains several parts as follows:Chapter1is an introduction, which elaborates the current research, research significance andresearch methods as well as explains research approach, emphasis and innovation points. Meanwhile,this part also gives a brief introduction to Bagezhuang Village. Chapter2demonstrates the meaning ofgrassroots democracy in rural area and relevant theories, and makes definitions of other relevantconcepts. Chapter3reviews the process of the development of grassroots democracy in rural area andgeneralizes the achievements. Chapter4analyzes the problems during the democratic construction,especially the problems existing in democratic election, democratic decision-making, democraticmanagement and democratic supervision. Chapter5proposed several suggestions based on the previousanalysis, which intends to provide reference for solving the problems.There are two innovation points in this thesis. First of all, since the collapse of Soviet Union andtremendous change in East Europe in1990s, the promotion of socialist democracy has becomeincreasingly crucial. Thus, this thesis seeks to analyze the way of promoting democratic constructionfrom multi-dimensional and multi-angle perspectives. Second, considering Marxism as the basis ofanalyzing grassroots democratic construction can be seen as another innovation point of this thesis.
