In the wake of the upsurge of the third wave of Nationalism, research on the national identity of ethnic groups has become a social problem worthy of research for a lot of scholars. The Zhuang is the largest ethnic minority group in China, research into its national identity serves as protection and maintenance of unity in China’s border areas, stability being the most significant aspect.Since the time of the Qin Dynasty the Zhuang lived in the Lingnan region which was officially included into the jurisdiction of the national central government, the relationship between the lingnan region and the Central Plains region became more and more frequent, Confucianism slowly spread through the Zhuang region. In addition to the common fight against foreign aggression, the Zhuang people’s awareness of national identity also grew, in choosing Guangxi Province, Da xin County, and Ban Jia Village as the research area, research method used was questionnaires and in depth interviews, the study found that the different natural attributes and social attributes of the zhuang people have a strong national identity. The Zhuang have a very strong national identity, this is by no accident, and this sense of identity was formed through long term accumulation. It has deep historical roots and profound historical and practical reasons.Zhuang people’s agricultural production is based on the cultivation of paddy rice; this mode of production has created a good cultural condition for Zhuang national identity. The incorporation of the Zhuang region into the jurisdiction of the central dynasty during ancient times formed a situation of mutual dependency between the zhuang and han nationality, in Lingnan and the Central Plains region there was a long-term process of interaction. The mutual absorption of han and Zhunag cultures between the two ethnic groups towards the Zhuang national identity resulted in the foundation of cultural basis and family ties. After the founding of new China, the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government implemented the policy of national equality and regional ethnic autonomy system to strengthen the national identity of the members of the Zhuang nationality. The Zhuang’s strong sense of national identity has created a good environment for economic and social development in Guangxi.
