With the rapid development of avionics systems, as well as the new generation of area navigation (RNAV) and performance-based navigation (PBN) technology, the requirements of avionics systems’flexibility, automation and economy become increasingly higher. Therefore, research on efficient and reliable flight plan management system is necessary, which would lay a foundation for further study on the flight management system (FMS).This paper research on the airborne flight plan management system within FMS system that meets the requirements of RNAV based on the application background of general aviation aircraft. Firstly, research on the regulations and advisory circulars about RNAV of FAA and ICAO, as well as ARINC702A specification, and then refine the basic functional modules in flight plan management and specific functional requirements of RNAV, in order to determine the basic concept, composition and function of flight plan management system. Secondly, research on the key algorithms of flight plan management, including flight plan and trajectory prediction algorithms of cruise airway. Finally, explore the dependencies among the various functional modules of system, design and implement flight plan database, electronic navigation map that meets ARINC424specification, and introduce the design and implementation steps of flight planning, state management and execution, and track predication function modules in detail.Flight plan management system is loaded on the target platform, which is a certain type of integrated avionics system and works together with the integrated displays. This paper also verifies the basic functions of the flight plan management system by both static and dynamic means. Dynamic verification is used for functions during the flight with simulated flight parameters as input, while static one is for functions before flight with no input. The verification result represents that the flight plan management system is fully functional, has a good performance and simple operation, and meets the requirements of RNAV.
