The teaching design acts as a carrier to realize the goal of teaching Chinese as a foreign language while design an excellent teaching plan is the basic guarantee of student’s communicative competence by promote the technique of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and improve teaching quality and efficiency to enhance learning interest and achieve teaching goals. Based on the twelfth class in "the Development of Chinese" which is "It is the pillow but not the needle", this article mainly aims at exploring a better way to teach the elementary Chinese comprehensive course and hoping that this research can provide some references and inspiration for foreign language researchers and practitioners. The whole essay is divided into five parts as follows.The first part is introduction. This part clarifies the origin of the topic and its significance, and also introduces the research content, and the last is the part of the literature review. This article mainly introduces the papers and books regarding the design of teaching Chinese as a foreign language..The second part is about the theoretical basis, related principle and teaching process in the course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The third part is the research of the design of teaching It is a pillow but not a needle, which includes the analyze of teaching environment, lesson type, teaching materials, teaching objects, teaching content, teaching subject, teaching strategies, teaching evaluation, teaching appliance and teaching arrangement.The forth part is the specific steps which exist in the teaching design It is a pillow but not a needle, and find out the effectiveness of the teaching design through questionnaire surveys.The fifth part is conclusion which not only summarized the teaching design’s valuable attempt but also analyzed its inadequacy.
