The self-government of the villagers is a democratic political construction withChinese characteristics at the grass-roots level, which is also a research focus in theacademic circle. As the development of urbanization increasingly fast in China, moreand more country areas become urban areas, lots of villagers transit to citizens, thepresent state of self-government of the villagers, to a great extent, will affects thequality of China’s urbanization in the future, and even the whole society.Current researches on self-government of the villagers take typical countrysideas object, but we found that there are many economic developed rural areas wherelocal villagers no longer do agricultural activities to make living, their income sourcesare industry and handicraft industry. Such a situation makes those rural areas differfrom typical countryside. We call those countryside with new characteristics, orurban characteristics, semi-urban and semirural areas, in these areas, Theself-government of the villagers presents some different features. The purpose of thispaper is to describe and analysis the self-government of the villagers in some areaslike this.This paper based on the background of China’s urbanization, through empiricalinvestigating some semi-urban and semirural areas, summarized some goodexperience from the self-government of the villagers in economic developed areas,proposed several problems which is hindering it’s further development, and at last,put forward some countermeasures.
