Grenada is a very country in Caribbean. It gained independence in1974, and began to carry out diplomatic relations with USA. At the beginning of the independent, Grenada under the Gary took to the pro-American roads and established friendly relations with the United States. In order to prevent the Soviet Union from encroaching, the United States are tolerant of Gary’s authoritarian. In March1979the new jewel movement leaders who have the tendency of Marxism seized power.Later, Grenada took to the pro-Soviet and pro-Cuban road. The United States began to see it as a thorn in the side, continuously to interfere. The American government under the guidance of human rights diplomacy in the carter administration and the low-intensity e strategy in the Reagan administration, began to put political pressure, economic blockade, military threat and uglification of propaganda. IN1983October, the America invaded in Grenada what caused quite a stir in the world, and strongly criticized and opposed by most countries of the world. The America’s invasion in Grenada has a profound influence whether to Grenada or to America itself. Currently, the domestic study of the topic is still slightly weak. This thesis bases on the Presidential Directive documents, tries to analyze the whole sequence of American policy toward Grenada during president Carter and Reagan, from which to reveal the essence and influence of the American policy on Grenada.The article is composed by preface, text, conclusions four parts. The preface introduces the research status of domestic and international academic circles about this project, summarizes the academic value and meaning.The first part, primarily discusses the position of Grenada in America’s Cold War strategy. The United States see Grenada as’a back yard in the back yard’ because of its important geographic location. After of Grenada won independence in1974, Gary established friendly relations with the United States. Gary’s brutal dictatorship caused people’s dissatisfaction in Grenada, who have struggled for a long time under the leadership of the New Jewel Movement.The United State in order to prevent the Soviet Union from encroaching on Grenada, began to pay attention to the revolution situation in Grenada.The second part, primarily discusses the foreign policy of President Carter toward Grenada. The carter administration policy toward Grenada can be divided into two stages:the first stage is during Gary’s government who executed the pro-America route. During the period, the United States saw Grenada as his own backyard and prevented the Soviet Union from encroaching on; the second stage is during the People’s Revolutionary Government. At the beginning of the People’s Revolutionary Government, the U.S tried to pull Grenada into his arms, but Mr. Bishop Regime firmly on the path of the pro-Soviet and pro-Cuba. Later, Carter began to change his policy. Carter government condemned the Mr. Bishop regime’s human rights situation, refused its economic aid, make Meg relationship into a more and more the opposite situation and put political and military pressure on Grenada.The third part, primarily discusses the foreign policy of President Regan toward Grenada. After Reagan taking office, he adopted a tougher strategy what is low-intensity war and continued to put political, economic and military pressure on Grenada, even invaded Grenada directly in1983October what forcing the Grenada to establish a pro-American government.The part four, discusses the essence and influence of the Carter and Reagan administration’s policy toward Grenada. Although the forms of the two presidents’ policies toward Grenada are different, the essence is the same. They are all the needs to competing zones of influence and maintain the United State world hegemony with Soviet Union in the context of the cold war. The United State invaded Grenada and won a military victory, what is certain as a successful case of America in which resist anti-American forces of the Soviet Union in Central America.
