Grenada is a Caribbean country with small area. Because of its specialgeographical location the United States and the Soviet union pay more attention to itslocation. Grenada completed its independence in1974and began a diplomaticrelations with the United States. After independence, Gairy government implementedpro-American foreign policies.But the New Jewel Movement overthrew the Gairygovernment, and the Bishop’s government implemented pro-Soviet foreign policies.This made the Reagan administration grumbled.On the morning of25October1983, the United States sent the "Rapiddeployment forces" with a surprise attack means to Grenada.This is the largestmilitary operation since the Vietnam war. At the same time, Grenada which almostnobody knows became the center of worldwide attention.America always saw the Latin America as its “backyard”.During the cold war,LatinAmerica became the point of battle between United States and the Soviet union.In Grenada, after the NJM, Bishop became the power of leader. Bishop set up thegovernment which diplomatic policy pursued "one-sided" of the Soviet union andCuba. This is not favored by the United States. President Reagan regarded Grenadaas the threat to U.S. Security in a speech. In1983, after the "October" the UnitedStates used to protect the safety ofAmerican citizens in Grenada as an excuse, andquickly invaded Grenada.The essence of Grenada event is "Reaganism" that was carried out into practice bythe American in the middle Americas. Grenada events is in a certain extent thatreflected the United States and the Soviet union for America’s sphere of influence.Through the study of Grenada events, we can better understand the Reaganadministration’s policy of middle America, then we can know the United States andthe Soviet union during the cold war competition for power in Latin America.This article is composed of exordium, text and epilogue.The text is divided intofive parts. Exordium introduces the domestic and international academia and the researchstatus of this project, and summarizes the academic value and significance of thisarticle topic.The first part mainly discusses the American invasion of Grenada.Grenada’sdomestic situation and relationship with neighboring countries are mainly the UnitedStates. Grenada because of its special geographical location in bishop pro-soviet roadafter competition for the region in order to prevent the Soviet union begin to pay closeattention to the revolutionary situation of Grenada.The second part discusses the American invasion of Grenada, this war is mainlydivided into two stages, the first stage is completed for Grenada’s capital occupation,all international police forces by sarin took a helicopter to the capital airport, take thesalis-samade task.
