After the founding of New China, the workers’ working and livingconditions have changed greatly. Coal miners is a typicalrepresentative of the workers’ groups during this period, they play animportant role in China’s industrial civilization and social regionaleconomic development. This article discusses the50s’ coal miners’characteristics and historical mission from the perspective of socialhistory, and reflecting the close ties between the miners’ fate and thenational policy. And on this basis, combining with the situation ofcontemporary miners, I hope the paper can provide beneficialreferences in founding a harmonious and benignant relationshipbetween workers and country. The text in the first part mainly discusses the overview ofYangquan miners. In the1950s, Yangquan miners mainly came fromthe surrounding farmers and "descent miners ", the majority of themwas from Shanxi and Hebei province. As the recovery anddevelopment of the national economic construction, the number ofminers presented an upward trend year by year. Among the increasingminers, women miner emerged. The second part mainly introduces the working conditions ofYangquan miners in the1950s. After the founding of new China, coal miners working environment improved, the state provides a variety oflabor insurance and welfare policy, encouraging workers’ workingpassion and enthusiasm. Labor union became an importantorganization of organizing production and maintaining workers’interests. Feeling the deep attention from the country, therefore theminers showed a positive attitude in work. The third part mainly introduces the Yangquan miners’ livingconditions. At the beginning of New China, most of Yangquan minersenjoyed a high social status. They took an active part in thedemocratic political life. Meanwhile, politically emancipated minersgradually realized the pain of illiterate, and they active in the literacymovement. The illiteracy rate has fallen dramatically. Out of the mine, many miners’ daily life had no different with and other industrialworkers. Although enjoying high wages and benefits, they lived in asimple life. In daily life, both the conjugal relationship andneighborhood highlighted the characteristics of the equality andharmony. With the improvement of medical standards and the culturalfacilities, the miners’ quality of life was improved too.In the conclusion part, I try to comprehensive analysis Yangquanminers’ overall characteristics and mental status in1950s, anddiscuss the complex relation between the state and workers. Throughapproaching the relationship, I find it results in the two oppositeconsequences. On the one hand, the country shape workers’ physicaland mental by various policy, and hope to cultivate a batch of serversfor socialist construction. On the other hand, frequent politicalmovements and deviation of national policy implementation maketheir physical and mental exhaustion. At the same time, it reduced to its identity.
