A Researche On Evaluation Of China-class Universities

In an era full of competition among knowledge-based economy and global education,world-class universities has become one of the main bodies of innovation in each country,playing the functions of cultivating high-end talents, making innovation on advancedtechnology, and applying achievement in scientific research into practice. Therefore,recently, Chinese government is vigorously carrying forward the construction offirst-class and high-end universities. However, there is not a uniform standard for“first-class universities” among all social sectors. Though the concept of “China-classuniversities” is not clear, it is still a key issue on constructing first-class universities.First of all, through analyzing the present situation of the definition and research offirst-class universities and based on study of related theoretical knowledge, together withthe meaning of “first-class” in Chinese language and the reference of “first-classuniversities” used by the government, this thesis deduces the connotation and denotationof first-class universities in china.Secondly, based on the precondition of “first-class universities” in China under thegoal of “985project”, this thesis constructs the evaluation index system for first-classuniversities in China by two ways which are discipline condition and the other isdiscipline capability. Besides, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to scientificallycalculate the weight of each index.Finally, this thesis does empirical analysis of colleges and universities in China andconcludes the list of first-class universities in China. Moreover, suggestions on theconstruction of first-class universities are given based on the analysis.
