Geography is a comprehensive discipline that has both the nature and social disciplines. It is different from other disciplines in that it has a map-based image system. The new curriculum reform puts forward the requirements for educating students on geographic literacy. As an important carrier of geographic knowledge, maps play an important role in geographic learning.Map literacy is the core of geographic literacy.Establishing a scientific map literacy evaluation index system is the basis for detecting the results of map literacy cultivation. However, from the current domestic research on map literacy, there is less research on map literacy evaluation of junior high school students,so a scientific and effective map literacy evaluation index for junior high school students The system is very necessary. This paper uses the analytic hierarchy process.First, combined with questionnaire surveys, the evaluation indicators of junior high school students' map literacy are determined. The evaluation indicators include one first-level indicator, four second-level indicators, and ten third-level indicators.Secondly, the weight of each evaluation index is calculated, and a table of map literacy evaluation index system for junior high school students is obtained. Then, the seventh and eighth grade students of Shida Yizhong and Zhangzhou Yunxiao Liren School were used as the research object to verify that their map literacy was very good.It was also found that the map literacy training had the following problems: poor map learning environment, and some teachers' map literacy needs to be improved,Poor map knowledge, poor reading and drawing skills, and weak map awareness. Finally, according to the existing problems, strategies such as creating a good map learning environment, improving the map literacy of geography teachers, consolidating map knowledge, improving map skills, and enhancing the awareness of using maps are proposed to cultivate map literacy for junior high school students.
