Science and technology co-authorship network in University has been a kind ofknowledge innovating network constructed by participating parties and theirrelationships, in terms of knowledge, information, technology, personnel and capitalrelations. Structure of co-authorship network reflects the connecting way, contactingfrequency, and connection distribution etc; meanwhile, composition of co-authorshiprepresents the resources possessed, and way of exploration, by participators; factors ofthese two dimensions stated above can directly impact the effective flow, as well asknowledge and information evolution throughout the network and furthermore impactnetwork innovation performance. Since university has served as the main resource fororiginal innovativeness knowledge, improvement in innovativeness of its co-authorshipnetwork can boost significantly its Comprehensive strength and competiveness, as wellas, promote regional economy development, furthermore, lift national competivenessand status in the world stage.This paper firstly conducted review and summary on the achievements of relatedfields, and then from two dimensions of network structure and network composition,built an evaluation framework for innovation performance, via quantitative analysisand identification on key factors affecting innovation performance of co-authorshipnetwork in university; with indicators consisting of network cohesion(average pathstrength, average path length, cluster coefficient), and centrality(degree distribution,centralization)of network structure dimension; and network resource(field coverage,institute density), and cooperation pattern(university share, research institute share,industry share and internationalization)from view of network composition.Then this evaluation framework was performed on two university co-authorshipnetworks of Tsinghua and Stanford university, established by the co-authorshipspublished on SCI-EXPANDED database between2009and2010, for comparative andempirical analysis. By view of resource, Social network analysis (SNA)andbiobilogia were adopted for qualitative analysis. And results implied three directions interms of cooperation depth, cooperation intensity and university--research institute—industry co-authorship pattern, for improving innovation performance ofuniversity co-authorship network in China.
