With the development of economy and society as well as a growing awareness of the importance of teacher education,Sweden carried out a thorough reform of teacher education in order to adapt to the needs of society and to improve the quality of teachers.The reform involved a wide range of aspects and provoked far-reaching discussion.It played an important role in understanding the development of teacher education in Sweden.Firstly,this study regards the thought of building a learning society,the reform of public administration in Sweden,the reconstruction of schools,and the problems in teacher education as the background of this teacher education reform. Secondly,the study introduces the main aspects of teacher education reform:transform the organization and management of teacher education,rebuild the degree system,strengthen scientific research and postgraduate study,emphasize the skills development of in-service teachers,focus on special needs education and gender equality, and promote the process of teacher education informationalisation.Then after analysis of the Swedish teacher education reform in new century,we can summarize the main characteristics of this teacher education reform.the unity and diversity of teacher education management, the integration of teacher education content,the scientific knowledge base of teacher education, the close association between teacher education and schools, teacher education method of information technology, the inclusive and equal orientation in teacher education. Finally, in rational analysis on the basis of the new century Swedish teacher education reform, combined with the development of teacher education reform in China, we can draw enlightenments to China:enhance teacher education’s specialization and flexibility, promote the integration of teacher education, introduce education equity perspective into teacher education, enhance teacher education multilateral cooperation,and promote the development of information technology in teacher education.In this study, literature method, history method, and comparative method are widely used.Consulting Chinese and foreign literature about Swedish teacher education reform in the new century, we can get a factual understanding of the new century Swedish teacher education reform, tease out the important content, and also get an important reference for the analysis of the background and characteristics of the reform. By the historical method,we can understand the development of teacher education in Sweden, as well as the development of the main content of the new century teacher education reform. In addition, the use of comparative method helps provide important reference for teacher education in China. The features of the study are three aspects:firstly, pay a more systematic, in-depth attention to the new century Swedish teacher education reform; secondly, introduce the historical development of the Swedish teacher education into the analysis, showing a picture of the development of the Swedish teacher education. Thirdly, conduct an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the new century Swedish teacher education reform.
