With the deepening process of globalization, the rapid development of emerging online media, the Western social thought spread around the Chinese society rapidly. This is benefit for enhancing the exchange and interaction between Chinese and Western culture, promoting college students’ understanding of Western culture; the other hand, it also affects the formation of socialist core value. Meanwhile, the domestic is in a special period of social transition, and the traditional social and moral system are unprecedented impact, people’s values along with a diversified trend, which will inevitably have a negative impact on the values of college students.Under this background, to strengthen and improve college students’ social practice education will be particularly important. This is because the social practice is the most direct route for students to contact with the community, understand the community, and is the only way for them to grow. Social practice could promote college students to develop virtue in the understanding of the community, cultivate healthy personality in interpersonal communication, and enhance the overall quality and ability in the practice and training. And it also could promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, provide members of society for continuing education and promote the function of the advanced culture of the Chinese nation.Since the reformation and opening up, the Party and the country attaches great importance to the educational function of social practice, and strongly supported colleges and universities to carry out a wide range of forms of the summer social practice.On the one hand, students’ social practice has made remarkable achievements, brought new concepts and ideas for higher education. On the other hand, due to a variety of subjective and objective factors, the organization and management of the current social practice still exist some problems, thereby affecting the effectiveness of social practice. Thought carrying out questionnaires and in-depth interviews among university students who have been involved in social practice, this article will carry on the research of college students’social practice from the actual situation, functions, problems and development tragedies aspects, based on the cases study through combining the empirical and theoretical research. The main findings and conclusions of the article are as follows:Understanding of the contemporary college students on the importance of social practice, as well as the motivation to participate in social practice is more and more rational. Students generally participate in the summer social practice. The forms include social research, job attachment, policy propaganda and cultural awareness, environmental advocacy, science and technology, agriculture, education aid, legal aid and health care.The problems of social practice:one, in the process of social practice, all levels of government and universities giving college students the information and guidance, funding and venue support is very limited. Students in practice failed to give full play to their own subjectivity. Second, the connection between the social practice and moral education is limited. A part of social practice are failed to reflect its educational function. Third, through the relevant checks, the article found the appraisal method of social practice is one-sided, and it difficult to detect students in social practice the true performance and gains.To further enhance the effectiveness of social practice, the article presents several principals to combine the social practice education with the Students’self-education, professional learning, day-to-day education and employment and entrepreneurship. To propose measures to propose improvements and innovations in social practice from Dual mode of practice, social services model, and the emerging virtual practice model three aspects. To build the long-term mechanism of college students’social practice from process management system, assess the evaluation mechanism, and protection mechanism.
