In life-oriented composition writing, although students have accumulated a large amount of subject matters, they are still not able to thoroughly comprehend them. Under this circumstance, the author resorts to retrospective composition writing teaching approach, intending to help solve this problem. As far as the definition of retrospective composition writing is concerned, it refers to the fact that students reflect on their daily experiences through series of retrospective activities so as to optimize their cognitive structure and enhance their cognitive ability. In this way, they will be able to figure out the implied meaning of those subject matters and improve their own writing ability. As long as they thoroughly comprehend and personally relate to them, they will be able to express their genuine feelings, reveal the implied meaning and show their unique characteristics. The theoretical foundations, features and practical measures of retrospective composition writing teaching approach are explained at great length in this thesis. Moreover, the effectiveness of its actual application in class is analyzed. The author also summarizes the significance of the application of retrospective composition writing teaching approach. Firstly, it will help students pay more attention to new feelings and understandings in daily life, thus adding value to their own writing.
