Exercises, as an indispensable part of Chinese teaching textbooks, play a significant role in acquiring language knowledge and developing language abilities for second-language learners. In terms of previous studies on the textbooks of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, there are not many special studies on one kind of teaching materials. As a result, this paper draws from previous studies, with specific emphasis on the exercises found in Experiencing Chinese, a Chinese textbook for Thai speakers in junior school. Base on experiential teaching theory, this paper studies comprehensively on the natures, features and quantities of the exercises. Meanwhile, the author investigates and accesses the exercises deeply through questionnaire for some Thai teachers and students who are using Experiencing Chinese textbook. Hopefully, this paper can provide some references for compiling Chinese textbook exercise.In this paper, the introduction part clarifies research purposes, significance, and research actualities all over the world, objects, and methods.In the first chapter, we introduce the current situation of Chinese teaching in Thailand from two sides of the origin and course arrangement of Chinese education in Thai. Then we introduce some Chinese teaching materials and their exercises in Thai.In the second chapter, base on the brief introduction of Experiencing Chinese textbook, we discuss the design of exercises in that book, including analysis on the textbook, the natures, features and quantities of the exercises.In the third chapter, we investigate some Chinese teachers and Thai students who are using Experiencing Chinese textbook through questionnaire and interview, which contribute to offer useful suggestions in the next chapter.In the fourth chapter, according to the statistic analysis and the result of questionnaire and interview, we tentatively put forward a few understandings and suggestions for exercise design and arrangement.
