Reading has great significance on personal growth, competitiveness of the country and the development of human beings. Stimulating the children’s interest in reading and helping them develop good reading habits, will benefit a child for life, and will also affect the future and destiny of the country and the nation. However, due to the unbalanced social development in our country, with the background of the regional gap, the gap between urban and rural areas, the gap between rich and poor, the unbalance of regional development of children’s reading promotion is more prominent. Although urban children’s reading has aroused widespread concern, but the attention on rural children is not enough because of their weak position. Therefore, the current promotion of children’s reading should move away from urban to rural areas, to focus on rural children’s reading condition and solve the problems of rural children reading. This paper, by combing the information of a random survey of the rural primary school students and their parents, for their reading interest, reading methods, reading habits, the amount of reading, and the basic situation of rural households, the understanding of parents to the children’s reading, the parents’reading etc., found that there are many problems, such as the utilitarian of reading concept, the lacks of guidance of the behaviour of reading, the missing of reading promotion system etc.. It proposes a four-point proposal and countermeasures, in order to provide some constructive opinion for the activities of the current rural elementary school children reading promotion.
